Large multi-national companies which manufacture/distribute Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) throughout the country.

Challenge
Our clients require instant information which will allow them to track market data. The rapidly changing markets in which these companies operate necessitate such “real-time” information. Slight movements in sales figures can set in motion ripples, which affect the entire sales cycle which make real time information invaluable.

Our client wanted a system which could disseminate real time information to its top level management. A legacy system made use of e-mail and SMS facilities to achieve this. However, time lags, reliability issues and third party ownership meant that this system was far from instantaneous.

Intelligence
We quickly identified the main bottlenecks in the existing system and proposed a new system which would be reliable and fast. We suggested a self owned SMS messaging infrastructure using a GSM modem.

Solution

Push and Pull system

A middleware solution was designed such that SMS alerts would be sent out at predefined intervals whenever a sales threshold’s upper limit or lower limit was crossed. This created the “Push” functionality of the system.

The system was extended by providing a “Pull” functionality so that management could execute sales status queries by sending an SMS from their mobile phones. Both primary and secondary sales figures and targets can be displayed on the executive’s mobile phone.
